project summary

TransferWise is one of the world’s top online money transfer services. Its platform supports more than 750 currency routes across the world including GBP, USD, EUR, AUD and CAD, and provides multi-currency accounts.

With help from Paperspace and Studio of Design, the company was able to:

  • Integrate corporate values into the design by highlighting company branding and slogans across the office.
  • Bring out the cultural diversity of the team by putting up themed fixtures, walls, and ceilings.
  • Enhance productivity among its staff by installing workspaces suited to every individual’s needs, moods, and tasks.

the challenge

TransferWise wanted an office true to their motto – “Be Without Borders”, with a uniquely Singaporean twist as the regional hub in Asia Pacific. An open-plan “office without borders” was conceptualized, and various spaces needed to be carefully designed where staff can be empowered to work best independently or autonomously in teams.

the solution

Both quiet and shared spaces were created in the new office, allowing staff to work where they are most comfortable. These spaces featured local themes such as Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street, with kopitiam (traditional coffee shop) style furniture replacing conventional meeting room furniture, bringing out the prominent local culture of food and heritage in Singapore.

Collaborative areas with writing boards and a choice between benches or sofas were installed, allowing teams to work with each other on common tasks. Inspirational company mottos were also emblazoned across the workspace, bringing out the organization’s values to the fore. Natural light was also maximized in keeping with the no borders theme.
