SUMMARY

The 72-room Fair House Villas & Spas is an upscale beachfront property with a quiet, somewhat secluded tropical setting at the end of Mae Nam beach in Koh Samui. This resort and hotel features traditional Thai architecture and decor, providing an exotic experience for foreign tourists and a homely feel for locals. Aside from locals, many of its visitors are from European countries, who often make their way to the island during winter time. Their amenities include pool villas, an organic spa, a fitness center, and an open-air restobar.

With the help of Paperspace, the client was able to:

  • Successfully renovate and remodel the facility through modernization and upscaling.
  • Allow an increase in hotel rating and occupancy rates due to the renewed and elevated design qualities.
  • Achieve a harmonic combination of tropical, cultural, modern, and luxurious elements.

THE CHALLENGE

In proposing initial options to the clients, the pitch was also presented to the agents, who were stakeholders in the company due to their role in the company as the people who sell the space to the customers. Following the decision to have Paperspace Asia decide on the aesthetic of the project concept, the goal was to make the customer most comfortable during their stay and to create a home away from home.

The client expressed the reason for their renovation was to elevate their hotel ratings and  increase accommodation rates, providing a boost to the business’ income. To allow this, the company set their sights on introducing a sense of luxury to the interior and aligning the design to their branding, following the increase in rates.

This renovation project is one of Paperspace’s first Hospitality projects, which meant exploring new horizons for the company. Unlike Paperspace’s typical workplace projects that have structured requirements, hospitality projects are somewhat subjective and focused on client’s consumers. Thus, a sense of empathy was crucial in conceptualising an overall design for the project.

THE SOLUTION

When forming the overall design of the project, a lot of consideration was put into catering to the senses. Not only did the design have appeal visually, but also emanated an aura of luxury through textures, materials, lighting & furniture. Guided by a tropical theme, the reception and concierge areas saw stools made out of Timber logs. The wood was also used abundantly throughout the final product, as they bore a semblance to the existing columns that were retained from the previous design.
